Ronald E. Shaffer, 72 of Jefferson died Thursday, August 3, 2017 in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 18, 1945 in Carmichaels, a son of the late John W. and Virginia Katheryn Wilson Shaffer.
Ron was a 1964 graduate of Carmichaels High School.
He proudly served his country as a Medical Corpsman in the Army from 1965-1971 including a tour in Vietnam from 1966-1967 in the 1st Medical Company. He was a retired coal miner from Emerald Coal Mine in Waynesburg and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Ronald E. Shaffer, 72 of Jefferson died Thursday, August 3, 2017 in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 18, 1945 in Carmichaels, a son of the late John W. and Virginia Katheryn Wilson Shaffer.
Ron was a 1964 graduate of Carmichaels High School.

Ron was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Post #954, Jefferson.
On March 9, 1968 he married Marjorie Teagarden, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ronald E. Shaffer Jr. and his wife Katie of Bethel Park, and Justin Shaffer and his wife Jamie of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, Ronald III, Thomas, Isabelle, Jordan; three brothers, Clyde Shaffer of Waynesburg, Gary L. Shaffer and wife Ellen of Jefferson, and John W. "Jack" Shaffer Jr. of Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Michele Lee Shaffer and three siblings, William C. Shaffer, Janet Cramer, and Leroy Dale Shaffer.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Bowser officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #954, Jefferson. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.
